January 2010 - Letter from the President

Happy New Year, and welcome to the second decade of the "new" millennium! Can it be fully a decade ago that we worried about Y2K? While the last 10 years have been both tragic and joyous, looking back reminds us that resilience and determination are two important keys to bouncing back. In the same respect, we at Sand Hill Global Advisors believe that attentiveness to our clients' risk tolerance and our patient commitment to our philosophy of diversification, disciplined rebalancing and cost management, have served our clients well during tumultuous financial times. Now is an interesting time to look at the psychological side of our investment decisions; what behaviors surfaced during the recession that influenced our judgment? And what have we learned about how to react in a financial crisis-have we learned anything that will help us in the future? This is the subject of our 2010 Financial Forum: Investor Psychology: How Our Thoughts and Emotions Shape Our Investment Behavior. Our speaker, Dr. Meir Statman, is a frequently quoted, internationally recognized expert in this field. As an added benefit, we are very excited that we will have the opportunity to introduce our Chief Investment Officer, Brian Dombkowski. Brian joined the Sand Hill team on January 15, so the Forum is his chance to meet many of our clients and business associates. We hope you will join us in welcoming him.
